Craig's Ashes Diary: Part Two
With just a matter of days to go before the first Ashes Test between England and Australia, Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton has sent us the latest part of his Ashes Tour Diary:
“We arrived in Townsville after 2 two hour flights! The first was to Brisbane and then onto Townsville where we got ready for our final warm up game against Cricket Australia.
“We had a day off the day after we arrived and we decided to go paintballing. It was good to get out and about and have a bit of fun before the serious stuff starts next week! There we a few bruises around the dressing room for the next few days but it was an enjoyable afternoon!
“It was back to the serious stuff again the following day when we had a training session where the ante was upped again. Facing indoor balls being slung at us at high speed and trying to survive was definitely a good challenge.”
“The final tour match started with us in the field and the pitch was very slow on the first day. It was a good day to bowl and spend time in the field on our feet. The batting went pretty well as a team but it was not so good for me personally. Having said that I’m feeling good in the nets, so I’m sure that the runs will come.
“It was very tough on the final day as we tried to bowl them out in 30 degree heat but again it was good for us to try out different plans ready for the Test next week.
“It was then on to Brisbane ready for the build up to the First Test match at the Gabba.
“We had a day off today so I’ve just been chilling and resting around the hotel playing a bit of PlayStation. I met up with the Somerset boys who are out here in Brisbane with the Lions on Monday night so it was good to see them again and find out how they were getting on.”
Part three of Craig Diary will appear on this site just before the Second Test.
