Somerset beat Glamorgan in Second XI Trophy
Four wickets for Paul van Meekeren, a century from Johann Myburgh and an unbeaten half century for Ryan Davies were the highlights of Somerset’s six wicket victory over Glamorgan in the Second XI Trophy at Newport Cricket Club on Wednesday.
After being asked to bat first the hosts were reduced to 68 for five as Van Meekeren made inroads into the top order.
However Cameron Herring (63) and J R Murphy with 60, then added 114 for the seventh wicket to enable Glamorgan to reach 229 for eight from their 50 overs.
Van Meekeren ended with four for 42 while Tim Groenewald finished with two for 57.
When Somerset replied George Bartlett and Myburgh shared an opening partnership of 118 before Bartlett was out for 41, off 45 balls with six 4s, at the end of the 18th over.
Myburgh then added 64 with Davies in eight overs for the third wicket before the was out for 101 which he scored off 92 balls with 18 fours and three 6s.
Davies remained unbeaten on 52 off 70 balls with five 4s, as he helped Somerset to 230 for six off 43.3 overs.
