Gloucestershire Women v Somerset Women

Somerset Women begin their Vitality County T20 campaign today (Monday) when they take on Gloucestershire at Thornbury.

The squad for the fixture is as follows: Sophie Luff (c), Nat Wraith, Nicole Harvey, Niamh Holland, Emily Edgcombe, Daisy Jeanes, Joleigh Roberts, Lauren Filer, Jodie Filer, Lorraine Szczepanski, Alice Bird and Lily Hawkins.

GAME ONE

Game One Scorecard

Somerset won the opening match by 34 runs.

Batting first, Somerset made 132 for seven. Nicole Harvey top scored with 35 from 43 balls. There were also valuable contributions from Daisy Jeanes (30 from 16) and Sophie Luff (25 from 30).

Chloe Skelton top scored for Gloucestershire with 38, but the Somerset bowlers were always on top and restricted their opponents to 98 for five from their allotted overs.

GAME TWO

Game Two Scorecard

Somerset won by five wickets.

Three wickets from Lorraine Szczopanski helped limit Gloucestershire to 108 for seven from their 20 overs.

Chasing 109 for victory, 56 not out from Sophie Luff helped steer Somerset to victory with 11 balls to spare.

Ahead of the game, Somerset Captain, Sophie Luff said: “I’ve said this before, but getting to represent my home county and lead this team is very special. I’m definitely the senior member of the side and hopefully I can play my part in a successful campaign with performances but it’s more than that, it’s helping our younger players learn and develop along the way.

Coach, Dave Roberts said: “I’m excited to get the season underway. They are a talented group and it will be good to see them tested against really strong opposition.”
