Jack selected in England XI
Jack Leach has been selected to play for the England XI in a two-day warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI starting on Saturday at Richardson Park, Perth.
Moeen Ali will captain the side.
Ali is the only player from the 11 that played against Australia in Adelaide to feature in the match. He is joined in the 12-man squad by Jack, the five Ashes squad players who did not play in Adelaide, plus another five players from the England Lions (Ben Duckett, Keaton Jennings, Dan Lawrence, Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood), who are now based in Perth at a training camp.
Jack had another fine season for Somerset in 2017, claiming 51 wickets in the Specsavers County Championship at an average of 25.78.
Following the announcement Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr said: “Everyone associated with Somerset County Cricket Club is delighted that Jack will get this opportunity to demonstrate his skills in this fixture. It’s the ideal stage for him to show exactly what he can do and we are all wishing him all the very best. He has shown for a number of years that he is an exceptional cricketer”
Jack and his fellow Somerset spinner Dom Bess both featured for the England Lions in their convincing nine wicket win against a Western Australia XI in today’s T20 match.
