Lewis back with ball in hand
There is good news for Somerset Members and supporters this week.
Although the weather has turned cold, the sight of Lewis Gregory running in to bowl in the centre of excellence will warm the hearts of cricket lovers across the region.
The all-rounder was unable to bowl at the end of last season due to a stress fracture, but the 29-year-old is now back with the ball in his hands.
We caught up with him earlier today to discuss his return to fitness.
“The last couple of months of the season were really frustrating,” he said. “Not being able to contribute in all facets of the game was tough. The good news is that I had an MRI about three weeks ago and the medical team were happy with the results.
“I’m back doing some bowling now and we’ll build that up over the next few weeks. The plan is to be back to being flat out in January for the PSL. It’s really good news and that competition will help to make sure that my body is back up to matchday intensity before the summer. It will certainly stand me in good stead come April.
“It was good to get the ball back in my hand. I was a little bit rusty and a bit stiff the next day, but it was great to be back bowling. I felt a bit lost when I was only able to use one element of my game, so it’s great to be on the way back.”
Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr was also delighted to see Lewis running in.
“His return to fitness has gone incredibly well,” he said. “He’s put in a lot of hard work here, and huge credit has to go to the Club’s Science and Medicine team, and in particular Jamie Thorpe and Joel Tratt, for all their efforts.
“First and foremost, everything that Lewis is doing is designed to ensure that his return to fitness is about longevity. He’s retuned to bowling and is pain free which is brilliant to see. He’s already demonstrating high skill levels and that is down to the fact that he’s been highly diligent in what he’s had to do, and I have no doubt that will continue moving forward.”
