VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Mo Bobat, ECB Performance Director, said: “It’s always great when we can bring some of our best and highest potential players together, particularly to take on senior international opposition.

“The squad reflects a balance of England’s next best players and some future players of note, as well as high performers from this season’s Vitality Blast campaign.”

England Lions Captain, Tom Abell said: “To have been given the captaincy is a huge privilege for me. I’m incredibly proud to get the opportunity to lead the England Lions and hopefully I can put my best foot forward.

“It’s very special to have the other Somerset players involved. I’m thrilled that Bants and Smeedy are going to be involved and of course Adam Hose used to play here too. Having some close friends in the squad makes it even more special.

“It’s a massive opportunity for all of us and it will be a great challenge to come up against the South Africa side. We all know what Tom and Will are capable of. They’re supreme talents who put bums on seats, that’s for sure! They are extremely talented and hopefully they can show everyone what they’re capable of in a Lions shirt.

“To captain the Lions will be incredibly special, but to be able to do that here in Taunton is amazing. It’s going to be a real test for us all against international opposition, but the dream is to be able to play at the very top level and we will find out things about ourselves when we come up against the quality of players that we’ll be facing in these games.”
