Media & Communications Work Placement
Somerset County Cricket Club are offering a work placement in our Media & Communications Team for the upcoming 2021 season. This placement is intended to allow the successful candidate to apply their knowledge and skills in a work setting, increase their skills and competencies, give insight into the way we work, help them to better understand our industry and help them clarify their career goals.
Somerset CCC Commercial Director, Caroline Herbert said: “This opportunity comes at a particularly difficult time for students with so much uncertainty and a challenging economic backdrop.
“We are looking to provide a genuine learning opportunity for anyone interested in a career in media. This opportunity will give the successful candidate the chance to learn important skills and procedures at an elite level sporting organisation.
“In the first instance we would be looking for this position to act as a work placement for a candidate who is currently studying a relevant course, so that the role would contribute to their qualification and help them to accumulate academic credit.
“We will therefore be contacting career development officers and faculty heads at the higher and further education centres across the South West to discuss viable candidates. We would also consider taking on a graduate on an internship if we were unable to identify an acceptable candidate who is currently in the education system.
“In a recent survey of nearly 5000 students and graduates by Prospects, almost two-thirds of final year students feel negative about their future careers, while the majority reported that they are lacking in motivation (83%) and feel disconnected from employers (82%).
“Their biggest concerns are that there will be fewer jobs, internships or apprenticeship opportunities in their chosen industries. It’s hard to see the positives at the moment, especially if you’ve lost out on an internship, work placement or work shadowing opportunity, and we hope this opportunity will allow students to build their skills and gain the necessary experience despite the current circumstances.”
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 3rd March 2021.
