Mixed fortunes for Somerset Women

Somerset Women enjoyed mixed results when they made the long trip to Hartlepool on Sunday to play a T20 double header against Durham and Cheshire.

Against Durham the hosts were put into bat first and scored 126 for seven from their 20 overs. Niamh Holland was the pick of the Somerset bowlers, ending with three for 28 off her four overs.

Rain then fell which meant that Somerset needed to chase a revised target of 98 from 14 overs. Unfortunately, Somerset could only manage 44 for eight. Sophie Luff top scored with 21.

However, Somerset fared much better in their second match against Cheshire, who opted to bat first.

Cheshire made 106 for six from their allotted overs. The foundation of the total was a second wicket partnership of 72 which was eventually broken by Nicole Richards, who ended with three for 23. Tilly Bond also impressed, claiming two for seven off three overs.

When Somerset replied, Luff was very much to the fore once again and made 42 off 40 balls before she was the fourth player out with the score on 87.

During her innings Luff shared a partnership of 34 for the fourth wicket with Holland who remained unbeaten on 19 off 35 to see her side home without further loss.

Somerset Women are next in action this weekend when they host both Devon and Scotland in T20 matches at Taunton Deane CC on Sunday where the first game gets underway at 10.30am.
