HEAD TO HEAD

Since the competition was first introduced back in 2003 the two sides have met on 10 occasions, of which Somerset have won five, Middlesex have triumphed in three of the matches, one has been tied and one has been abandoned.

When the two sides met last Sunday at Uxbridge it was Somerset who ran out the winners by 21 runs.

Batting first at Uxbridge Lewis Gregory started the innings off well, sharing in a third wicket partnership of 56 with Adam Hose before he was out for 37 off 22 balls.

Hose then added 56 for the fourth wicket with James Hildreth who made 38 off 19 deliveries which included three fours and three sixes before he perished. Hose was eventually out for 59 which came off 28 balls and included eight fours and two sixes.

Lower in the order Roelof van der Merwe hit 17 off 13 balls and along with Craig Overton, who hit 19 off 11, added 32 for the eighth wicket as Somerset reached 207 for nine off their 20 overs.

When Middlesex batted they were limited to 186 for seven, thanks to an impressive all round bowling and fielding performance by Somerset. The pick of the bowlers was Craig Overton who took three for 24.

TEAM NEWS

Director of Cricket Matt Maynard has named a 15 man squad with Corey Anderson and Johann Myburgh set to face late fitness tests ahead of the match.

The Somerset squad is as follows: Jim Allenby (c), Johann Myburgh, Lewis Gregory, Peter Trego, Adam Hose, James Hildreth, Michael Leask, Corey Anderson, Roelof van der Merwe, Steve Davies (wk), Tom Banton (wk), Craig Overton, Josh Davey, Tim Groenewald and Max Waller.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Ahead of the match Somerset Director of Cricket Matt Maynard said: “It was very frustrating for everyone that the weather prevented us playing the local derby match here on Friday, when we had a sell out crowd. It was nice to get off the mark in the competition at Uxbridge last weekend and we were hoping to back that up with another win against Gloucestershire.

“We played some good cricket at Uxbridge and had some good individual performances with both bat and ball, and in the field collectively I thought that we were superb.

“A few of the lads will be playing club cricket on Saturday to keep their form up and we are looking forward to facing Middlesex again on Sunday when we will have another big crowd in to cheer us on.”
