It's not just about the cricket!

It’s not just about the cricket here at the Cooper Associates County Ground!

As well as bringing you first-class sporting action, we also provide the ideal venue for meetings, conferences, dinners, parties, weddings and special events.

Each month we will be looking back at some of the successful events that have been staged here recently and looking ahead to some of those that are coming up.

It has been a busy few weeks here at the Cooper Associates County Ground with a number of large and interesting events taking place.

A capacity audience of the best tourism businesses from across the region witnessed 70 trophies being presented to the winners at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards ceremony held at the Cooper Associates County Ground recently and more details of this can be seen by clicking here

The Cooper Associates County Ground also staged the Heart of the South West LEP conference and annual general meeting, details of which can be viewed here

We were also delighted to be able to help BBC Somerset stage their Children in Need fundraising Great Wellington Walk.

Presenter Claire Carter took on the challenge of walking 75 miles in five days wearing wellington boots.

On the first day of her challenge she walked from Wellington School to the Cooper Associates County Ground where BBC Somerset broadcast their first Late, Late Breakfast Show live from the Long Room. Somerset supporters attended the free event which also featured a silent disco. Club Captain Tom Abell was also be in attendance.

After the event Claire said: “A huge thank you to Somerset County Cricket Club for playing such a big part in The Great Wellington Walk. The week was better than any of us could have hoped for and to have the Club involved was fab. My thanks to Tom Abell also for finishing the walk with me!”

Our 1875 Club recently played host to over 50 junior chess players who competed at the second Grand Prix event of the season. This was the first time that we have hosted a Somerset Junior Chess event and it gave those taking part a rare opportunity to play outside of a school setting.

Several of the age sections produced winners with an impressive six wins from six games.

Congratulations go to Angie Percorini in the U16s , Aron Saunders in the U12/U11s, Loic Manouvel in the U10s, Gabriel Keech in the U9s and Dwiti Acharya in the U8/U7s. Congratulations also to Thomas Cummins, who achieved 3.5 points and was top U11 player in the tough U12/U11 section and to Etienne Richardson who was again top U7 in the U8/U7 section.

The Cooper Associates County Ground was also proud to hold the South West Farmer Awards 2017.

The best in farming from all over the South West gathered together to find out who had won the prestigious awards in the numerous categories.

The event has been hailed as a great success.

As we make our way towards December our thoughts turn to our annual Christmas Party Nights.

Over the course of eight nights Somerset County Cricket Club’s Catering Department will be hosting around 4000 party-goers across three separate venues within the ground.

This is the busiest time of year for our Catering Department and we will be looking back at the festive period in the next installment of: “It’s not just about the cricket!”
