Over two million views on live streaming service!
Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to announce more outstanding results on our live streaming service.
Initially piloted in July 2017, the Club offered a free stream of every non-televised home Specsavers County Championship, Royal London One-Day Cup, Vitality Blast and Kia Super League match during the 2019 season.
In total, 2.1 million views were recorded!
That represents over 215,000 hours of County Cricket watched by Somerset fans online throughout the summer. This is a major increase from the 500,000 views during 2018.
Over 80% of the viewers were from the UK, but Somerset matches were watched all over the world. Examples of the worldwide reach include 4500 viewers from Japan, 2300 from Thailand, 1700 from Ukraine and 1200 from Finland!

In addition to this, real-time clips and videos shared on the Club’s social media channels had a whopping 49 million views over the season and the Somerset website boasted a record-breaking summer with 6.1 million hits, up from 4.8 million in 2018.
Somerset’s Vitality Blast fixture against Sussex was the highest viewed match of the season, while this fixture also brought about the highest concurrent viewership.
Somerset’s Digital Marketing and Communications Executive, Ben Warren said: “It’s been another great year for our live streaming service. We had a lot more televised cricket at the Cooper Associates County Ground this season, so to see these numbers is an excellent representation of how popular Somerset matches are.
“We are continually looking to improve the service and we look forward to broadcasting again in 2020.”
Somerset County Cricket Club would like to thank the fantastic team at the BBC for providing expert commentary on the stream throughout the summer.Back to News
