17:38 – MATCH DRAWN with Worcestershire 177/5

17:08 – Rather gloomy here now at the CACG with Worcestershire 138/4

16:15 – WICKET! Jamie Overton picks up his first wicket of 2018, having Westbury caught behind by Steve Davies. Worcestershire 64/3

15:16 – WICKET! What a superb delivery from Tim Groenewald!

15:05 – Somerset 234/4 with Tom Abell scoring 71 not out. Worcestershire are now batting

14:01 – 50 for Tom Abell, brought up with a delightful cover drive to the boundary!

13:47 – Hildreth out for 93, LBW to the left-arm spin of Twohig. It’s been a fine knock from him today in difficult batting conditions

13:35 – The first six at the CACG in 2018 goes to James Hildreth, who now has 93*

13:21 – 100 partnership between James Hildreth and Tom Abell! Somerset 169/3

11:54 – Both George Bartlett and Eddie Byrom have been bowled, the latter with a strange dismissal as the ball just feathered Byrom’s leg bail as he attempted a leg glance. The skipper Tom Abell comes in at number 5 to join James Hildreth. Somerset 62/3

11:36 – Plenty of help for the bowlers as you can imagine and Trescothick has fallen for 5, LBW to Joe Leach. Eddie Byrom has looked calm at the crease and is 21 not out.

11:07 – Trescothick and Byrom make their way to the middle for the first time in 2018.

10:35 – An uncontested toss has taken place, meaning that Somerset will bat first when play gets underway in around 25 minutes time.

10:17 – Play is due to get underway at 11am

09:35 – The covers are off and the sun is attempting to come out here in Taunton. Still no word on a start time.

08:51 – Good morning from the Cooper Associates County Ground! Today is the day that cricket returns for 2018 as Somerset host Worcestershire in a red ball, 1-day friendly. We have had some overnight rain and the groundstaff have been working hard to remove the water from the outfield. At this stage we are unsure of the prospects of play for the day.

Somerset are in pre-season friendly action tomorrow (Friday) when we host Worcestershire at the Cooper Associates County Ground in a match that begins at 10.30am.

This match will be a red-ball game and will consist of two sessions of three hours and fifteen minutes with lunch in-between.

Entry to the match is free.

You can keep up to date via our website and on our Twitter page.

In addition to this, a report on the day’s play along with quotes will be posted after the close.

Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr has selected the following squad of 12 for the match and all players will feature.

The squad (in alphabetical order) is: Tom Abell (c), George Bartlett, Eddie Byrom, Josh Davey, Steve Davies (wk), Lewis Gregory, Tim Groenewald, James Hildreth, Jamie Overton, Tim Rouse, Peter Trego, Marcus Trescothick.

Looking ahead to the match Somerset Head Coach, Jason Kerr, said: “The guys have been incredible throughout pre-season and they’ve worked incredibly hard. We all now feel that their skills need to be tested against opposition, so hopefully the weather will hold so that we can get some cricket against Worcestershire.

“The lads are ready to go and really keen to get out there. Batters want time in the middle, the bowlers want overs under their belts and ultimately guys need to spend some time in the field as well.

“At this stage we want to create as many opportunities as we can for the squad. However, that does narrow when we start to lose games because of the weather. Obviously some people who have been excellent during pre-season have had to miss out this time but ultimately we need to make sure that the side that we think will give us the best chance of winning that first competitive game get as much opportunity as possible.
