Recognition for Jason
Somerset County Cricket Club are pleased to be able to announce that, after an impressive start to the season, Head Coach, Jason Kerr has been recognised for his outstanding work.
For 2019 the ECB’s Coach Development Department have introduced a monthly award which recognises the impact that coaches have made to their teams or to the game.
Jason has been awarded this accolade for April, a month that saw Somerset top the Specsavers County Championship and put in some impressive performances in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
After receiving his award, Jason said: “It means a lot to me. Ultimately, as a coach, you’re only as good as how well the players in the squad deliver out on the field. Performances have been really good this year, so this is as much for the players and the support staff as it is for me.
“It’s great that the ECB have introduced this initiative because there are a lot of coaches all over the country who put in an enormous number of hours in support of the players. It’s nice that these coaches will be getting recognition.”
The ECB’s Foundation Coaching Lead, Rowly Williams said: “‘New for this year, the Coach of the Month Award recognises coaches that have made a difference to their teams or to the game. Any coach involved with a team in an ECB competition is in contention for an award and over the course of the season each recipient will be presented with their award. One of our first recipients is Somerset CCC Head Coach, Jason Kerr.
“Jason was appointed Head Coach of Somerset in October 2017, and alongside Director of Cricket, Andy Hurry they have created a blueprint for success. They have led the way in the Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup, which reflects Jason’s efforts and success with the team.”Back to News
