SCCC & King's renew successful partnership

Somerset County Cricket Club can today confirm that our long-established partnership with King’s College and King’s Hall School is set to continue for at least a further 12 months.

This renewal will continue to benefit both parties and will strengthen the already excellent links between SCCC and one of the region’s most highly regarded education providers.

Both Somerset County Cricket Club and King’s have a long tradition of sporting excellence on and off the field of play and both have played a vital role in the development of young sportsmen and women in Somerset for over 100 years.

A designated Centre of Cricketing Excellence, King’s College has produced a number of Somerset players including Jos Buttler, Eddie Byrom, Alex Barrow, Craig Meschede, James Regan and Nathan Gilchrist. Current First XI players Tom Banton and Will Smeed are also former students, whilst James Rew and George Thomas, who made their Somerset List A debuts in 2021, are currently pupils.

As part of the agreement, King’s will also be sponsoring James Hildreth and Tom Banton in 2022, whilst players and staff from the Club will be working with King’s students on both a coaching and leadership level.

Somerset CCC Commercial Director, Caroline Herbert said: “We are delighted to have renewed our working relationship with King’s College and King’s Hall School. We both have an important role to play when it comes to the on and off field development of the regions young people, and the partnership is clearly working.

“To see the likes of James Rew and George Thomas breaking into the First XI last summer just goes to show what can be achieved.”

King’s Director of Admissions and Marketing, Kate Rippin, said: “We are delighted that we continue to build on what has always been a very successful relationship with SCCC. There is such a strong cricket tradition within our school, and we are all looking forward to both girls and boys enjoying the season ahead.”
