SCCC LANDS ON MAYFAIR AS TAUNTON MONOPOLY EDITION UNVEILED

An official Monopoly game for Taunton was launched at a red carpet ceremony at the Cooper Associates County Ground today.

As part of the event Somerset County Cricket Club were revealed as having landed on the very top space, Mayfair.

More than 30 other leading Taunton landmarks have replaced the famous London Monopoly addresses including: The Museum of Somerset, The Brewhouse Theatre, Vivary Park, Goodland Gardens and Taunton Racecourse.

Four charities also feature on the board and each were formally presented with a game at the launch ceremony. The charities are: MIND in Taunton and Somerset, Stand Against Violence, St Margaret’s Hospice and Love Musgrove.

There are also customised Chance and Community Chest cards including one that “spares” players “the gallows” by dodging a Judge Jeffrey’s ruling.

Somerset Head Coach Jason Kerr along with Jack Leach and Dom Bess joined Mr Monopoly and Stumpy at the launch.

“The game is a celebration and a love letter to Taunton,” said Jake Houghton, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK – makers of this version of the game under official license from Monopoly owners Hasbro. “Thank you to everyone who has voted for the landmarks that appear and star on it and for making this game happen.”

Sarah Trunks, Head of Marketing and Communications at Somerset County Cricket Club said: “Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to be included in this special edition of Monopoly and to have been awarded the highly sought after Mayfair spot is fantastic.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Members and supporters who voted for us.

“We are delighted to have hosted the launch event of Taunton Monopoly and I have no doubt that the game will be a huge hit.”

The Mayor of Taunton Deane Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey said: “As a local Taunton girl I very much welcome this new Monopoly Game featuring so many of Taunton’s landmarks.”

A Taunton youngster was the first to get his hands on the game after beating more than 200 others to land the prize after the game’s makers Winning Moves UK put out a VIP search in the summer.

Entrants were asked to say why they “loved” Taunton and 13 year old Jay said he loves the town because it is: “so diverse” adding: “You can do shopping and within five minutes be in green land like Vivary Park.”

The special edition is available from all good Taunton toy and book stores including Argos, Asda, The Range, Waitrose, Waterstones, WHSmith and The Works. The game will also be widely available online, including at www.winningmoves.co.uk
