Scott involved with #Groundsweek

The Somerset Cricket Grounds Association (SCGA) are running two online events to coincide with #GroundsWeek, (March 1st-7th) an awareness campaign launched by the Grounds Management Association.

Grounds week is the first-ever celebratory week highlighting the vital role of grounds staff, volunteers, and the role that the broader turf-care sector plays in making sport possible and keeping green spaces accessible with this national week.

One of those lending his support to the initiative is Somerset CCC Head Groundsman, Scott Hawkins.

New Services Launch and AGM- March 1st at 7pm

The first event will encompass the association’s AGM before going through a range of new services which are becoming available through the SCGA to help support clubs across Somerset to be able to improve the quality of their pitches and outfields building on the existing services offered through the trailer and aeration schemes.

Our second event is a webinar with Dr Iain James (Head of Facilities Services at ECB) and Scott Hawkins (Head Groundsman at Somerset County Cricket Club) on Pre- Season Preparation.

Dr Iain James has over 15 years’ experience as an applied soil scientist specialising in sports surface technology. Iain was Director of the Centre for Sports Surface Technology at Cranfield University before he joined the ECB where he headed up their world-leading programme of research and teaching in Sports Surface Technology.  His research investigated the performance, safety and sustainability of sports surfaces.

Scott Hawkins became Head of Groundsman at Somerset County Cricket Club after taking over from Simon Lee in October 2019. Scott has a wealth of experience and held the position of Deputy Head Groundskeeper for Essex County Cricket Club before he took over as Head Groundskeeper at the highly respected Cricket Performance centre in La Manga, Spain

The pair will share their experiences and knowledge on Pre-Season Preparation and will answer questions raised both in advance and on the evening.
