Second XI Championship: Gloucestershire v Somerset

SCORECARD

Gloucestershire resumed on 54 for two following on when play got underway on the final day of this Second XI County Championship match at Rockhampton CC. The hosts still trailing Somerset by 349 runs.

By lunch, the hosts had advanced the score to 107 without further loss. This had moved on to 178 for three by tea.

Somerset were denied victory as Gloucestershire’s tailenders doggedly survived the concerted pressure. With the hosts on 288 for eight, the match was declared a draw just before 6:30pm.

DAY THREE

Gloucestershire began their first innings when play got underway on day three of this Second XI Championship match at Rockhampton CC.

The Somerset bowlers made early inroads and Ned Leonard claimed three wickets as the hosts slipped to 30 for four.

By lunch on day three the hosts had reached 79 for four.

Somerset claimed a further four wickets in the afternoon session, and by tea the score was 163 for eight.

The Somerset bowlers quickly wrapped up the Gloucestershire after the break as the hosts were all out for 189.

Batting for a second time, Gloucestershire had reached 52 for two by the close of play, trailing by 349 runs.

DAY TWO

Somerset will resume on 226 for one on day two of this Second XI County Championship match against Gloucestershire at Rockhampton.

The start of play was delayed and the players eventually took to the field shortly before 12pm.

In the morning session, Ben Green and Lewis Goldsworthy took their second wicket stand past the 200 mark and Goldsworthy reached his century from 188 balls.

Green eventually fell for an excellent 150 in the 86th over of the match with the score on 293.

By lunch, Somerset had reached 294 for two.

In the afternoon session Somerset lost George Bartlett, Will Smeed and Kasey Aldridge, but Goldsworthy remained defiant and by tea the visitors were 433 for five with Goldsworthy unbeaten on 187.

He was eventually out for a superb 196 which came from 340 balls and included 22 fours.

Marchant de Lange also caught the eye with a rapid 85 from just 43 balls and by the close of play Somerset were all out for 592.

DAY ONE

Somerset began a Second XI Championship match against Gloucestershire at Rockhampton today (Monday).

Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.

Openers, Ben Green and Dylan Church put on 55 for the first wicket before Church fell for 19.

Green was joined by Lewis Goldsworthy and the pair took the score to 83 for one at lunch.

In the afternoon session, Green went to his hundred from 147 balls and by tea the score had advanced to 208 for one.

By the close of play, Green (131 not out) and Goldsworthy (63 not out) had taken Somerset to 226 for one.
