Second XI Championship: Northants v Somerset

Somerset take on Northamptonshire in the Second XI County Championship at Dunstable CC this week.

Day Four

On the final morning, Somerset made short work of the Northants tail and the hosts were all out for 113.

Josh Davey finished with four for 17 from 10.1 overs, and Ben Green claimed three for 13 as Somerset won by 327.

Day Three

Somerset resumed on 184 for four on day three of this Second XI County Championship match. The fifth wicket stand between Lewis Goldsworthy and Ben Green was worth 64 when play began and the pair took that figure to 136 before Green fell for 75.

By lunch the visitors had moved to 319 for six.

Goldsworthy went to his hundred shortly after the break from 176 balls, but fell for 102 at 345 for seven. Josh Davey added 78 from just 77 balls as Somerset were eventually all out for 443 meaning that the hosts require 441 for victory.

After impressing with the bat, Davey then claimed two early wickets to leave Northants on 20 for two. Ben Green claimed three wickets in the final session and by the close of play the hosts were 109 for seven, requiring 332 more runs

Day Two

Northamptonshire resumed on 85 for one on the second day of this match.

However, three quick wickets for Somerset saw the hosts slip to 118 for four. By lunch, Northants had reached 166 for six. The final four wickets fell for the addition of 60 runs as Somerset dismissed their opponents for 226, a first innings lead of just three runs.

Shoaib Bashir was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 49 from 11.1 overs. Ned Leonard also caught the eye by taking three for 46.

Somerset openers, Andy Umeed and Steve Davies shared a stand of 51 for the opening wicket before Davies and George Bartlett added 44 for the second wicket. The Somerset ‘keeper eventually fell for 63 at 116 for three.

By the close of play, Somerset had reached 184 for four, a lead of 181.

Day One

Play got underway at 11am today.

The home side won the toss and elected to bowl.

George Bartlett’s 93 was the cornerstone of the Somerset innings as the visitors were dismissed for 223 in their first innings.

By the close of play, Northamptonshire had reached 85 for one in reply.
