Second XI Championship: Somerset v Hampshire - Day Four- LIVE

Somerset resumed on 193 for six in their second innings on the final day of this Second XI Championship match against Hampshire at Taunton Vale Sports Club.

Unfortunately for the hosts, they were dismissed for 245 after just 48 minutes of the morning session as they set Hampshire a victory target of 352.

Alfie Ogborne made an early breakthrough in the second over when he accounted for Tom Prest with just one run on the board.

By lunch, Hampshire had reached 26 for one, requiring 326 further runs.

In the afternoon session, Middleton and Eckland shared a 127-run stand for the second wicket, and by tea the visitors were 167 for two at tea.

Hampshire brought up the 200 in the 59th over, but they lost their final seven wickets for just 26 runs as they were dismissed for 229 as Somerset won by 122 runs. Ogborne was the pick of the bowlers, claiming five for 35 from 14 overs.

DAY THREE

Hampshire resumed on 271 for five on day three of this four-day Second XI Championship match against Somerset at Taunton Vale.

The visitors had advanced to 366 for six at lunch. Just before 2:30pm Hampshire were dismissed for 406 as Somerset claimed a first innings lead of 106. Josh Thomas was the pick of the bowlers, claiming five for 95.

Batting for a second time, Somerset lost three early wickets and had reached 58 for three at tea, a lead of 164.

Wickets continued to fall in the evening session, but a 110-run partnership between George and Josh Thomas helped Somerset to close on 193 for six, a lead of 299.

DAY TWO

Somerset resumed on 460 for nine on day two of this Second XI Championship match against Hampshire at Taunton Vale.

The hosts were eventually dismissed for 512.

By the time the lunch interval arrived, Hampshire were 26 without loss, trailing by 486.

Ollie Sale made an early breakthrough for the hosts after the break when Weatherley was caught behind without further addition to the score.

However, Flethca Middleton and Tom Prest took the second wicket partnership past the 150 mark to see their side to tea at 193/1.

After tea the 183-run partnership was finally ended when Prest was bowled by Marchant de Lange for 101 at 209 for two.

De Lange also accounted for Middleton who fell for 92, and when Albert fell to Ogborne Hampshire were 232 for four.

By the end of the day Hampshire had reached 271 for five and trail by 241.

DAY ONE

Somerset take on Hampshire in the Second XI Championship at Taunton Vale Sports Club this week.

Play got underway at 11am today (Monday).

Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.

Andy Umeed and Archie Vaughan shared an opening stand of 42 until the former was bowled by Dom Kelly for 30. Vaughan edged behind for 12 for the addition of just 10 further runs to the total, and by the time lunch arrived, the hosts were 89 for two.

Shortly after the interval, Xavi Clarke and James Hildreth took Somerset to three figures in the 32nd over.

The pair went on to share a third wicket stand of 106 until Clarke was lbw to Tom Prest for 77 at 158 for three. Will Smale joined Hildreth in the middle and by the time tea was taken, Somerset had advanced to 270 for three.

In the evening session, Hildreth went on to make 86 as his 124-run partnership with Smale eventually came to an end.

Smale went on to make 87, and a rapid 97 off just 49 balls from Ollie Sale helped to ensure that Somerset finished on 460 for nine.
