Second XI Fixtures Confirmed

The Somerset Second XI fixtures have been published today.

2019 will see the team begin their campaign with a three-day friendly against Worcestershire at Taunton Vale on March 25th.

Following the confirmation of the fixtures, Second XI Coach Greg Kennis said: “It’s always exciting when the fixtures are confirmed so that you can start planning for the season ahead.

“This year’s fixtures have taken a slightly different shape to previous years because we’ve tried to take into account more the structure of the First XI fixtures.

“The Royal London One-Day Cup is quite early for the First XI this year, so we’ve tried to replicate that with the Second XI fixtures and incorporate a number of 50-over matches early on. This will give the guys good exposure to white-ball cricket leading in to the Royal London One-Day Cup.

“It’s a hugely exciting time for the Club. My previous role within the Pathway means that I already have a good relationship with many of the players that we’ll be working with this year. We have a good group of players and I can already envisage a number of selection headaches.

“We have a strong squad and strength in depth below that as well. This is highlighted by the number of players that we currently have involved with the England Young Lions and the manner in which some of the academy players are progressing.

“I’m not sure how I’m going to fit everyone in to the Second Team at times! Hopefully some of the younger players will get the opportunity this year and I’m sure that they will take it if given the chance.
