Second XI friendly cancelled
Somerset County Cricket Club’s Second XI friendly against Worcestershire has been cancelled due to the recent poor weather.
The three-day pre-season match was due to begin at Taunton Vale Sports Club on Monday, but it has been decided that the fixture can no longer go ahead as Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis explains.
“Obviously we’ve been out in Abu Dhabi for pre-season, but we’ve stayed in regular contact with the ground staff at the Cooper Associates County Ground and also with Rob Hake at Taunton Vale. Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been as good back home as it has been over here and we’ve been led by the recommendations of the ground staff.
“The weather has simply made it impossible for them to carry out as much work as they would have liked to at Taunton Vale. Sadly there’s just no chance that it will be ready on time. It’s unfortunate but it’s just one of those things that we can’t control.
“It’s always disappointing when you lose a game of cricket to the weather, but there’s nothing that we can do about it.
“At least the players have had a chance to get some game time on grass over here. It would have been nice to carry that on, but now we’ll have a week of skills-based work ahead of our two-day friendly against Gloucestershire at Millfield on March 31st.”Back to News
