Second XI Friendly: Somerset v Gloucestershire - Match Drawn
On the second and final day of this Second XI friendly at Millfield School Gloucestershire declared on their overnight total of 439 for seven.
The Somerset reply got off to the worst possible start and the hosts found themselves on 37 for three in the 17th over.
However, a 96 run partnership for the fourth wicket between Charley Reed and Roelof van der Merwe took Somerset to 133 before Reed was dismissed for 52. Van der Merwe then added 121 with Sam Young before departing for 71 from just 65 balls.
Young went on to make an impressive 95 and he received good support from Jamie Baird (41).
By the close of play Somerset had reached 294 for seven as the match ended in a draw.
Somerset Second XI are next in action on Sunday when they take on Devon in a one-day friendly at North Devon CC.
Somerset Second XI began a two-day friendly match against Gloucestershire at Millfield School today (Sunday).
Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bat.
Nathan Gilchrist made an early breakthrough when he bowled Will Tavare for two with the score on 35. However, Miles Hammond and James Bracey added 111 for the second wicket. Hammond was the man to fall for 94.
Bracey went on to make 155 whilst Ryan Higgins made 91 as the visitors finished day one on 439 for seven.
Kasey Aldridge was the pick of the bowlers for Somerset, claiming four for 86 whilst Gilchrist took three for 53.

Ahead of the match, Somerset Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis said: “Obviously we were disappointed that our first match had to be called off, but we’ve had a good week of training.
“This match will provide an exciting opportunity for six of the young players on our Pathway and we are very fortunate to be able to use the excellent facilities at Millfield.
“What better way to get the season underway than with a local derby against Gloucestershire.”
