Second XI: Ryan and Jack set up Somerset win in the derby
Somerset Second XI have the local bragging rights following a 54 run victory over Gloucestershire in the 50-over Trophy competition at Bristol University.
Having won the toss Somerset Captain Ben Green elected to bat first and Ryan Davies and George Bartlett caught the eye with impressive performances. The pair shared a superb partnership of 177 for the third wicket as Somerset recovered from 25 for two to post a strong total.
Davies top scored with 135 which came off just 118 balls whilst Bartlett weighed in with 97 from 90 as Somerset amassed a total of 337 for eight from their allotted overs. There were also useful contributions from Eddie Byrom (36) and Green (23 from 14 balls).
Gloucestershire started strongly and and opening stand of 60 between Brandon Gilmour and Miles Hammond was eventually broken by Dom Bess. In fat the young spinner accounted for both the openers and Gloucestershire found themselves on 85 for two.
Jack Leach then took over and his figures of four for 41 really put Somerset in control. George Hankins gave the home side hope before he was dismissed by Green for 113 but in truth Gloucestershire were always behind the run rate and finished on 283 for seven from their 50 overs.
