Second XI Friendly: Somerset v Glamorgan - REPORT

A strong Somerset Second XI gained valuable practise at North Devon Cricket Club today but fell to a three wicket defeat at the hands of their Glamorgan counterparts.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Somerset struggled initially to make any impact on the game with Tom Banton (10), Tom Lammonby (15), Roelof van der Merwe (2) and Ben Green (16) all falling early in cold and wintery conditions.

Despite being 114/6 after 28 overs, Somerset rallied through Jamie Overton, who hit a well-constructed 60 from just 58 balls. He marshalled the lower order well on his home Club ground and saw Somerset to 203 before they were bowled out in the 45th over.

The Glamorgan innings got off to a strong start and despite a late flurry of wickets from Nathan Gilchrist, the visitors reached their target in the 41st over with 3 wickets still remaining. We would like to thank North Devon CC for hosting the game and we apologise that through a technical difficulty, there is no scorecard available for this match.

Somerset Second XI are in action today (Wednesday) when we host our Glamorgan counterparts in a pre-season 50-over friendly at North Devon Cricket Club’s ground at Instow, North Devon (EX39 4LF).

The match was originally scheduled to take place at Taunton Vale Sports Club, but in view of the recent wet weather the venue has been changed.

Andy Hurry, SCCC Director of Cricket, said: “We are very grateful and thoroughly appreciative of this very kind gesture by North Devon Cricket Club to allow us to move our game to Instow.

“Being near the sea, their ground is fast drying and will hopefully allow us time to give some of our players that all-important match practice.”

Entry and parking is free, and the game is due to start at 12 noon.

Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis has named the following side for the match: Tom  Banton, Tom Lammonby, Peter Trego, Tim Rouse, Roelof van der Merwe, Ben Green, Sam Young, Max Waller, Jamie Overton, Paul van Meekeren, Nathan Gilchrist and Ollie Sale.
