Second XI: Somerset v Gloucestershire - Day Three

Somerset Second XI began our final match of the season on Monday, a four-day friendly against Gloucestershire at Taunton Vale Sports Club.

Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to field.

Day Three

Somerset resumed on 328 for four on the third day of this four-day friendly against Gloucestershire at Taunton Vale Sports Club.

The hosts were eventually all out for 433. Tom Lammonby made 64 whilst Nathan Gilchrist claimed a rapid 45 not out as Somerset set Gloucestershire a victory target of 382.

By lunch the visitors had reached 44 for one.

A century for George Hankins ensured that Gloucestershire had reached 202 for two by tea.

Hankins went on to make 223 not out as Gloucestershire reached their target to win by seven wickets.

Day Two

Gloucestershire resumed 140/7 at Taunton Vale under sunny skies and added a further 80 runs to ensure they took a fist innings lead of 52 runs. For Somerset, both Ollie Sale and Stephen Croft impressed with 4 wickets each.

Batting for a second time, the hosts made it look a lot easier and openers Eddie Byrom and Sam Young put on 54 for the first wicket before Young was dismissed for 23.

Byrom continued to flourish in the afternoon session and brought up a century from 119 balls before falling for 106.

Ben Green and Tom Lammonby took the total to 220 before Green fell for 64.

Tim Rouse added 11 before he was trapped lbw by Charlesworth but Lammonby (64*) and Ben Wells (41*) took Somerset to 328 for four at the close of play, a lead of 276.

Day One

Somerset openers Eddie Byrom and Sam Young put on 21 for the first wicket before Young was trapped lbw. Wickets continued to fall as the hosts slipped to 63 for four.

However, Tom Lammonby and Ben Wells (41) took Somerset to 135.

135 for five soon became 137 for seven at lunch with Lammonby unbeaten on 41.

After the interval Somerset moved to 150 for eight but rain forced the players from the field.

When the players eventually returned, Somerset were dismissed for 168. Lammonby remained unbeaten and top scored with 56 not out.

By the time the tea interval arrived the visitors had reached 41 for one.

The home bowlers fought back superbly in the final session and by the close of play Gloucestershire were 140 for seven. Ollie Sale and Stephen Croft both finished the day with three wickets.
