93 runs from Ryan Davies and five wickets for Dom Bess were the main highlights for Somerset as they beat Kent by 38 runs in the Second XI Trophy at Taunton Vale.

Kent won the toss, elected to bowl and made an early breakthrough when George Bartlett was dismissed with just eight on the scoreboard.

Marcus Trescothick and Ryan Davies took the score to 51 before the former England opener was caught and bowled by Matt Hunn for 19.  Davies and Tim Rouse then put on 98 for the third wicket when The latter was out for 41 from 55 balls.  Davies went on to make an impressive 93 from 102 balls before being trapped lbw by Adam Riley to leave Somerset on 174 for four.

Eddie Byrom picked up from where Davies had left and put on 64 for the fifth wicket with Michael Leask until the Scottish International was out for 21.  He then added a further 35 runs with Ben Green before being bowled by Hunn for 75 from just 50 balls to put Somerset on 273 for six in the 46th over.

Kent made a solid start and openers Zak Crawley and Joe Weatherley put on 71 for the first wicket, Crawley was the man to go for 23 when he was caught by Rouse from the bowling of Jack Leach.  His opening partner followed shortly afterwards when he was stumped by Davies to give Bess his first scalp of the day for exactly 50.

There were 97 runs on the board when Adam Rouse was dismissed by Bess but a partnership of 76 between Gerasimos Fatouros and Adam Ball got the visitors back on track.  Bess then accounted for the latter to leave Kent on 173 for four.

Jack Leach removed Ball courtesy of a catch by Josh Davey with the score on 196 and then Bess struck again to trap Ollie Robinson lbw just two runs later.  Kai Appleby offered some good resistance but when he too fell to Bess for 40 the Kent resistance was all but over.
