Somerset and Worcestershire played out a draw in this three-day match at Taunton Vale.

The visitors resumed on 36 for one on the final day and the score moved on to 50 before Nathan Gilchrist accounted for Josh Dell.

However, a big partnership between Adam Wiffen and Ross Whiteley took the visitors past the 300-mark before the former was trapped lbw by Max Waller for 118. Waller then accounted for Ross Coates, Zen Malik and Ben Twohig but Whiteley went on to make 196 before being dismissed by Tom Banton.

The visitors declared on 389 for seven and the two sides settled for a draw.

Somerset selected the following team for this match: Ben Green, Tim Rouse, George Bartlett, Peter Trego, Tom Banton, Roelof van der Merwe, Fin Trenouth, Jamie Overton, Max Waller, Ollie Sale, Paul van Meekeren and Nathan Gilchrist.

Day Two

A fine innings from Ben Green helped to give Somerset a first innings lead on day two of this three-day match against Worcestershire at Taunton Vale.

Somerset resumed on 31 for one and the score had moved on to 75 when George Bartlett was caught by Ben Twohig off his own bowling for 25. Green and Peter Trego then moved the score on to 144 before the more experienced man was dismissed for 39.

Tom Banton added a useful 31 from just 30 balls to take the score on to 180 before he became Zen Malik’s second victim of the innings.

Max Waller (23 from 26 balls) and Ollie Sale (26 from 34) made useful contributions but it was Green who provided the cornerstone of Somerset’s innings. Opening the batting, he faced 234 balls in his total of 92 as Somerset made 317 all out.

By the close of play Worcestershire had reached 36 for one in their second innings, a lead of 14 runs. Olly Westbury was the man to fall, trapped lbw by Sale for 13.

Day One

Somerset Seconds enjoyed a full days play on day one of their home match against their Worcestershire counterparts at Taunton Vale where by the close of play the hosts trailed by 263 runs with nine first innings wickets remaining.

After winning the toss and opting to field first the Worcestershire openers added 31 runs before Adam Wiffen was run out by Tom Banton.

Ben Green and Pete Trego both then claimed a wicket each to make the visitors 61 for three in the 20th over before a fourth wicket partnership of 107 took the score onto 168 before Ollie Sale struck to remove Olly Westbury for 85.

Zen Malik remained at the wicket and ended unbeaten on 121 as Worcestershire declared on 294 for five off 92 overs.

For Somerset there was a wicket each for Ben Green, Tim Rouse, Trego and Sale.

In the 10 overs of play that remained Somerset lost Rouse for 22 and will resume in the morning on 31 for one, Green unbeaten on five and George Bartlett yet to score.
