Second XI T20: Comprehensive win for Somerset

Somerset traveled to Newport Cricket Club today to take on Glamorgan in the Central Group of the Second XI T20 competition.

It was a good day for the visitors who came away with a win by eight wickets.


Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bat.

Callum Taylor (46 from 32 balls), Ruaidhri Smith (43 from 24) and Connor Brown (40*) ensured that the hosts posted a total of 173 for seven from their allotted overs.

Jack Brooks was the pick of the Somerset bowlers, claiming two for 19 from his four overs. He also ran out Alex Horton.

The Somerset reply got off to a solid start as Tom Banton and Will Smeed shared an opening stand of 56, bringing up the visitors 50 in just four overs.

Banton was removed for 38 from 16 balls but Smeed and Ben Wells took the visitors to 169 with a second wicket stand of 113.

Smeed eventually fell for an excellent 74 from 51 balls and it was left to Wells and James Rew to take Somerset over the line with eight wickets in hand and 16 balls to spare.
