Second XI T20: Big win for Somerset at Glamorgan

Somerset enjoyed a big nine-wicket win over Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens today (Wednesday May 18th) in the Central Group of the ECB Second XI T20 competition.


Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bat.

Somerset made an early breakthrough when Richard Clarke was caught behind by Harry Fisher off the bowling of Ben Green for in the fourth over with the score on 16. Green then accounted for Callum Taylor just three balls later for the addition of just one run to the total.

Colin Ingram and Kiran Carlson added 35 for the third wicket before the latter was bowled by Lewis Goldsworthy for 22.

Ingram eventually fell for 40 when he was stumped by Fisher off the bowling of Max Waller, and Glamorgan ended their innings on 133 for five.

Somerset openers Will Smeed and Kasey Aldridge shared an opening stand of 111 until Smeed fell for 76 from the final ball of the 12th over. His runs came from just 46 balls and included six fours and five sixes.

It was then left to Aldridge (51* from 37) and George Bartlett (6* from five) to see Somerset over the line with 32 balls to spare.

Somerset Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis has named the following squad for the match: Ben Green, George Bartlett, Roelof van der Merwe, Marchant de Lange, Lewis Goldsworthy, Will Smeed, Max Waller, Ned Leonard, Kasey Aldridge, Harry Fisher (Exeter University & Dorset) and Jay Terry (Somerset Player Pathway).
