Second XI T20: Gloucestershire v Somerset
Somerset were beaten by five wickets by Gloucestershire in the Second XI T20 competition at Rockhampton Cricket Club today.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.
The hosts made an early breakthrough when Greg Willows was bowled by Matt Taylor for one with just five runs on the board. Sam Young (4) then fell to Graeme van Buuren without further addition to the score.
Five for two soon became nine for three when James Rew was caught by Ben Wells off the bowling of Taylor without scoring.
After the powerplay overs, Somerset were 19 for three.
Will Smeed and Zen Malik shared a fourth wicket partnership of 32 from 29 balls, but Smeed fell for 23 at 41 for four.
Malik and Ben Green took Somerset to 79, but both men fell in quick succession.
A rapid 19 from George Barlow boosted the Somerset total as the visitors reached 108 for eight from their 20 overs.
Despite two early wickets for Max Waller, Gloucestershire ended the powerplay on 49 for two.
Ben Wells was trapped lbw by George Drissell for 25 at 75 for three and when Ned Leonard bowled van Buuren the hosts were 97 for four.
Leonard also accounted for Benny Howell (29), but the hosts reached their total with 29 balls to spare.
