Second XI T20: Gloucestershire v Somerset

Former Somerset bowler, Paul van Meekeren starred for his new Club as Gloucestershire came out on top in this Second XI T20 derby at Rockhampton CC by 50 runs.

Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Home openers Ben Wells and Joe Phillips took their side to 42 before the latter was removed off the first ball of the fifth over, Seb Linnitt taking the catch off the bowling of Kasey Aldridge.

By the end of the six-over powerplay Gloucestershire had reached 72 for one.

Wells brought up his 50 from 28 balls and shared a 60-run partnership for the second wicket with Tom Lace.

The Gloucestershire opener went on to make 70 from 40 balls before falling to Lewis Goldsworthy at 113 for three in the 11th over.

Sam Young added a rapid 42 not out as the hosts finished on 191 for six. Goldsworthy was the pick of the visiting bowlers, claiming three for 30.

Van Meekeren accounted for George Thomas, Kasey Aldridge and Lewis Goldsworthy as Somerset found themselves on 49 for three after the powerplay overs.

The Netherlands international also claimed the wicket of George Bartlett to finish with four for 18 from his four overs.

Ned Leonard top scored for Somerset with 25, but with only one other batter reaching 20, it was the hosts who came out on top.
