Second XI T20 x 2: Somerset make it two out of two against Gloucestershire

Somerset Second XI won both of their matches when they hosted their Gloucestershire counterparts at Taunton Vale on Monday.

In the opening game, after winning the toss, the visitors posted 154 for eight, which included a hard hit 51 not out off just 16 balls from Matt Taylor.

For Somerset Ollie Sale took three for 24 from his four overs while Ben Green had two for 32 off three.

In reply the hosts reached 155 for four, thanks to an unbeaten 72 from Peter Trego off 54 balls and 35 from Tom Abell.

In the second match the hosts batted first and made 184 for five off their 20 overs, which included 39 from George Bartlett off 32 balls and an unbeaten 54 from Tom Banton off 34 balls.

Banton shared an unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 93 with Ryan Davies who hit 28 off 18 balls.

In reply Gloucestershire ended on 150 for nine off their 20 overs, Sale again the pick of the bowlers with three for 23 off four while Green ended with two for 22 and Max Waller had two for 29.

Afterwards Steve Snell the Second XI coach said: “It was an excellent day for us with some great contributions from a number of the side. Peter Trego played a very well paced innings in the first game, while Max Waller was outstanding with the ball in both games and excelled in the field.

“Ollie Sale bowled with excellent pace and control in both games and is improving his control with every game. There was an exciting innings from Tom Banton in the second game, and a very good partnership with Ryan Davies which set up game winning total for us.

“Ryan faced just one ball which he didn’t score off throughout this innings and himself and Tom’s partnership was the deciding factor in us winning the second game.”
