Second XI T20: Double delight for Somerset
Somerset enjoyed double success in the Second XI T20 South Group today after victory in both games against MCC Young Cricketers at Taunton Vale Sports Club.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl.
Billy Mead helped the visitor to put on 41 for the opening wicket. However, Ollie Sale and Kasey Aldridge struck and Tom Lammonby claimed a run out as MCC Young Cricketers slipped to 52 for three.
Bradley Erasmus (35) steered the visitors to a respectable total but the Somerset bowlers restricted their opponents to 153 for six from their allocated overs.
Sale was the pick of the bowlers with two for 35.
Ben Green and Eddie Byrom put Somerset in a good position by putting on 63 for the first wicket. Green was the man to go for 29 off 12 balls.
Peter Trego made 33 from 21 balls but it was Byrom who ensured that Somerset claimed a comprehensive victory. He finished unbeaten on 67 from 43 balls as Somerset came out on top by eight wickets with six overs to spare.
MCC Young Cricketers won the toss and elected to bat.
Mead (41 from 31 balls) and Erasmus (45 from 30 balls) were once again to the fore as the visitors posted a total of 139 for nine as Sale, Nathan Gilchrist and Max Waller all claimed a brace of wickets each.
Somerset slipped to 69 for six but 58 from Tom Lammonby got the hosts back on track and it was left to Sale and Paul van Meekeren to steer Somerset over the line.
Somerset won by two wickets with nine balls to spare.
