Second XI T20: Somerset v Middlesex

Somerset Second XI are in T20 action today when they take on Middlesex in two matches at Taunton Vale Sports Club.

An incredible bowling performance from Johann Myburgh helped Somerset Second XI to a three wicket win over Middlesex.

Middlesex won the toss and elected to bat.

The visitors had reached 10 when Joe Cracknell was caught by Tim Rouse from the bowling of Paul van Meekeren for six.

Robbie White was the next man to go with the score on 30 when he was stumped by Fin Trenouth to give Dom Bess a wicket.

Myburgh was then brought in to the attack and he decimated the Middlesex middle order.

The 37-year-old claimed a hat-trick by removing Martin Andersson (42), George Scott (0) and Max John (0) to leave the visitors on 108 for five. He then claimed two more wickets to finish with stunning figures of five for three from two overs.

However, Charlie Scott remained unbeaten on 57 as Middlesex posted a score of 139 for seven from their allotted overs.

In reply Somerset slipped to 30 for three but Tim Rouse (71 not out) helped to ensure that Somerset reached their required total for the loss of seven wickets with four balls to spare.

An impressive innings from Dom Bess couldn’t prevent a Middlesex win in match two.

Middlesex won the toss and elected to bat.

Andersson and Cracknell shared an opening stand of 56 before the latter was dismissed by Roelof van der Merwe for 12. Cracknell went on to make 43 and there were good contributions from White (46) and George Scott (42) as the visitors posted a total of 186 for four from their 20 overs.

The Somerset reply got off to the worst possible start and the hosts found themselves on 16 for three.

27 from Tim Rouse steadied the ship and an impressive 74 from just 42 balls from Bess gave Somerset hope but in the end they fell short of the required total, finishing 145 all out from 19.4 overs as Middlesex won by 41 runs.
