Second XI T20: Smeed smashes Somerset to victory

Will Smeed played a starring role as Somerset beat Worcestershire by five wickets at Taunton Vale Sports Club in the Second XI T20 competition today.


Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat.

By the end of the six-over powerplay, the visitors were 44 for two.

Sonny Baker then accounted for Alex Milton for 0 to leave Worcestershire on 45 for three.

Joe Dell (30 from 20 balls) and Joe Leach (62 from 34) were the standout performers with the bat as Worcestershire finished on 153 for nine.

Ned Leonard was the pick of the bowlers with three for 14 from his four overs. There were also two wickets for Tom Lammonby and Sonny Baker.

Smeed was the driving force behind the Somerset chase.

The 19-year-old opened the batting and smashed his way to 71 from just 45 balls as Somerset reached their target for the loss of five wickets with five balls to spare. His innings included five fours and five sixes.

Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis has named the following squad: Kasey Aldridge, Sonny Baker, George Bartlett, Max Horton, Tom Lammonby, Ned Leonard, Charlie Sharland, Will Smeed, Ben Wells, Greg Willows and Sam Young.
