Second XI Trophy: Somerset win by seven wickets
Somerset Second XI secured a comprehensive Trophy victory over Glamorgan at Taunton Vale Sports Club.
Kasey Aldridge, Nathan Gilchrist and Jamie Overton all impressed with the ball as Somerset came out on top by seven wickets with more than 23 overs to spare.
Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bat.
Gilchrist claimed two early wickets to remove the visiting openers and leave Glamorgan on 36 for two.
Overton accounted for Charlie Hemphrey soon after that for the addition of just five runs to the visitor’s total.
It was then the turn of Aldridge to take centre stage as he took three quick wickets as Glamorgan slipped to 105 for six.
The score had moved on to 120 when Tom Lammonby ran out Tom Cullen, and it was then left to Jamie Overton, Jack Leach and Max Waller to clean up the tail as Glamorgan were all out for 149 from 35.5 overs.
Aldridge wasa the pick of the bowlers, claiming three for 20 from seven overs.
Chasing 150 for victory, Somerset openers Eddie Byrom and Steve Davies put on 62 from just 7.2 overs before Byrom was dismissed for 36 from 23 balls.
Davies and George Bartlett took Somerset past the 100-mark before the home side’s ‘keeper was out for 42 to put Somerset on 105 for two.
Tim Rouse (10) became Roman Walker’s second victim with the scoreboard showing 124, but Bartlett (33*) and Lammonby (17*) saw Somerset over the line from just 26.2 overs.
