Second XI Trophy: Johann and Tim in the runs as Somerset win
Johann Myburgh and Tim Rouse both scored hundreds as Somerset convincingly beat Glamorgan in the Second XI Trophy at Taunton Vale Sports Club.
Somerset won the toss and elected to bat.
Openers Johann Myburgh and Tom Banton put on 32 before the latter was dismissed for 13.
Myburgh then reached his 50 from just 39 balls before he and Peter Trego brought up the Somerset 100 after 15 overs. Trego then fell with the score on 104 but Myburgh continued to play his shots and went to his hundred off 87 balls.
Myburgh was the next man to go for 125 with the score on 256.
Tim Rouse also played impressively and he helped himself to 108 from 83 balls and when he fell Somerset were 292 for four.
Unfortunately for the home side, 292 for four became 349 for nine and by the end of their allotted overs Somerset finished on 371 for nine.
Joe Voke and Connor Brown put on 50 for the first wicket and Tom Cullen made 54, but apart from Callum Taylor (38) the rest of the visiting batsmen didn’t really offer any resistance as the Somerset bowlers took control.
Glamorgan were eventually all out for 216 from 41 overs as Somerset won by 155 runs.
Lewis Goldsworthy was the pick of the Somerset bowlers, taking four for 52 whilst there was a wicket each for Nathan Gilchrist, Peter Trego, Roelof van der Merwe, Max Waller and Ben Green.
