Jack Leach then struck to remove Michael Burgess at 83 for three.

Delray Rawlins made 51 before falling to Ollie Sale by which point Sussex had moved to 172 for four.

Tom Haines was the pick of the home batsmen and he helped himself to 110 from 126 balls. It was a knock that included 15 fours. He was well supported late on by Ed Barnes (44) but by the time Brooks dismissed Ishwarjot Sohi with the last delivery of the alloted 50 overs the hosts had reached 280.
