Somerset County Council Careers Fair A Huge Hit!

Somerset County Council recently held their annual careers fair at Somerset County Cricket Club with tremendous success!

Schools from all around Taunton were invited to spend the day at the Cooper Associates County Ground and were well supported by over 50 local employers and further education providers. The attendants were treated to a wide variety of interactive displays designed to engage and assist them in making more informed choices about their future careers.

In the morning session, the Cooper Associates County Ground saw over 1500 young people from local schools attend and speak to the experts, assisting them to start thinking about possible future careers and the skills / qualifications they will need to get the jobs they are after.  It’s a great opportunity for them to explore the world of work and broaden their career thinking.

The afternoon session was opened to the general public, aimed at young people and their parents, this session had a different feel and generated more in-depth conversations with visitors.  Again, exhibitors wowed the general public with their interactive displays, whilst taking the opportunity to promote their brand and any opportunities they may have coming up.

Amongst the many local companies and further education providers in attendance were Leonardo, Yeovil College, Bicton College, the Armed Forces, University Centre Somerset and Home Farm Fest.

Sarah Johnson, from Somerset County Council, said “We held our Careers Fair at the Cooper Associates County Ground and had an amazing day!  The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, very efficient, nothing too much trouble and everything ran like clockwork. With over 1700 visitors throughout the day, over 50 exhibition stands and over 100 exhibitors – there was not one complaint, we will definitely be back next year!”
