Somerset qualify for Second XI Trophy semi-final
We are pleased to be able to announce that Somerset have qualified for the semi-finals of the Second XI Trophy.
Somerset topped the South Group after claiming 11 points from our six matches, three points clear of second placed Kent.
We will take on Durham, who finished second in the North Group, at Taunton Vale Sports Club on Friday June 21st. Entry and parking for this fixture is free of charge, with the match starting at 11am.
The other semi-final will be contested between Yorkshire and Kent at Scarborough.
Following the confirmation of this fixture Somerset Second XI Coach, Greg Kennis said: “It’s been a good campaign so far and we’ve played some exceptional cricket at times.
“The most pleasing element for me so far has been the atmosphere around the camp this year. The success of the First XI has transferred its way to the Second team and there is a real buzz around the Club at the moment.
“There have been some standout performances throughout the campaign so far but it’s generally been a real team effort. The more experienced players have shown that they are still in contention for First XI selection whilst the younger players, we’ve played three or four Academy boys in most games, have shown glimpses that they may very well become stars of the future.
“It will be another tough encounter for us. Durham won four of their six matches and have some fine young players. We will have to be at our best, but I’m confident that if we execute our skills effectively then we will make it through to the final.”
