Somerset Second XI v Gloucestershire - Match abandoned

Day Two

Somerset resumed on 59 without loss at Taunton Vale but quickly lost Pakistani opener Azhar Ali, caught behind from the bowling of Craig Miles for his overnight score of 22. Marcus Trescothick had made his way to 42* and Eddie Byrom 10* before it was decided that the pitch was unfit to continue. The match has therefore been abandoned with Somerset 89/1 in their first innings.

Day One

Somerset began a three day Second XI Championship match against Gloucestershire at Taunton Vale on Tuesday where play got underway at 11am.

The visitors won the toss and after choosing to bat first their openers took the score onto 52 when Josh Davey accounted for Chris Dent caught by Tim Rouse for 34 in the 14th over.

Jack Leach entered the attack and accounted for the other opener Ben Charlesworth for 18 with the total on 62.

At the opposite end Dom Bess then had Gareth Roderick caught by George Bartlett for three with the total on 91.

By lunch Gloucestershire had moved onto 118 without further loss off 39 overs, James Bracey unbeaten on 34 and Will Tavare not out 7.

After the break Tavare helped the score onto 142 when Ollie Sale bowled him for 15. Shortly after Leach had Garrett caught by Azhar Ali for no score.

Craig Miles helped Bracey to add 24 to the total but after moving onto nine he looked to drive Bess and was bowled.

The introduction of Paul Meekeren into the attack from the Staplegrove End met with immediate success when he had Bracey LBW for 85 off 168 balls.

By the time tea was taken Gloucestershire had moved onto 210 for seven off 73 overs.

The final session saw Gloucestershire bowled out for 252 off 86.1 overs, Leach picking up two more wickets to end with four for 48 off his 22 overs, while Bess ended with two for 69 off 26 overs and Paul van Meekeren had two for 15 off his seven.

In the 15 overs that remained Somerset scored 59 without loss, Marcus Trescothick unbeaten on 24 while Azhar Ali is not out 22.
