Second XI: Middlesex v Somerset - T20 x 2

The Somerset Second XI are in T20 action today when they face their Middlesex counterparts at Uxbridge CC in two matches.

Match One

Middlesex won the toss and elected to bat.

George Scott top scored for the home side with 75 not out from 52 balls but the Somerset bowlers restricted their hosts to 168 for eight. Max Waller was the pick of the Somerset attack claiming three for 18 from four overs. There was a wicket each for Johann Myburgh, Ben Green, Peter Trego, Ollie Sale and Roelof van der Merwe.

The Somerset reply got off to a bad start when Jim Allenby was dismissed with the score on five. A 58 run partnership between Myburgh and Trego got Somerset back on track but both players fell in quick succession to leave the visitors on 65 for three. Ryan Davies and Tom Banton added 65 for the fourth wicket but after they both departed the remaining wickets fell quickly and Somerset fell just short as they reached 153 for nine from their allotted overs. Middlesex therefore won by 15 runs.

The Somerset team for the match today is: Peter Trego, Ryan Davies, Tom Banton, Roelof van der Merwe, George Bartlett, Tim Rouse, Michael Leask, Ben Green, Max Waller, Ollie Sale and Tom Lammonby.

Match Two

Somerset won the toss and elected to bat

Middlesex made an early breakthrough when Johann Myburgh was dismissed with the score on 0 but Jim Allenby and Peter Trego added 146 for the second wicket. Trego was the man to go for an impressive 78 off 48 balls.

Allenby eventually finished on an excellent 91 not out from just 58 balls as Somerset posted a total of 195 for four from their 20 overs.

Michael Leask and Ben Green to an early wicket each to reduce the home side to 33 for two but an 81 run partnership for the third wicket got the hosts back on track until Ollie Sale claimed three quick wickets to put Somerset back on top.

From that moment on Somerset were in control as Middlesex slipped from 114 for three to 169 for nine by the end of their overs as the visitors won by 26 runs.

Sale finished with three for 36 and Ben Green claimed three for 38.
