Somerset Supporters Help to Raise Over £1000 for Blesma

Blesma, the Limbless Veterans charity, were our guests at the Cooper Associates County Ground for the first day of our recent Specsavers County Championship match against Lancashire.

Representatives from the charity were invited to spend the day at the match and carry out a collection on behalf of this very worthy cause.

Before the start of play former Royal Marine Ian Lloyd also joined the captains, Tom Abell and Steven Croft, for the toss as part of the day.

We are now delighted to be able to announce that Blesma raised over £1000 on the day.

Barbara Warner, Blesma Associate Director of Fundraising, said: “It was brilliant to be back at Somerset CCC once again this year.  Our volunteers and veterans were made so welcome and the supporters were extremely generous. Our thanks goes to everyone as Somerset CCC for a memorable day.”

Somerset CEO Lee Cooper said: “It was an absolute pleasure to have Blesma back at the Cooper Associates County Ground. They do a great job for our servicemen and women. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Members and supporters who gave so generously on the day.”

Blesma became a national charity in 1932, but the foundations were laid during the First World War when 40,000 British servicemen came home from the Western Front having suffered life-changing limb-loss.

The charity supports all serving and ex-service men and women who have lost limbs or lost the use of limbs or eyes.

Blesma also care for the younger generation from more recent conflicts that have survived complex amputations and will need a specialised service as they age.

The charity helps everyone from the youngest amputee veterans to those who fought in WWII, some having lived with limb loss for more than 70 years.

Blesma does not receive any government funding and relies solely on public support to enable them to help injured veterans for as long as they need support on their long road ahead.
