Somerset to take on Ireland in Pre-Season match

Somerset County Cricket Club will be taking on international opposition in a pre-season friendly.

The Cooper Associates County Ground will stage a four-day match between Somerset and Ireland, beginning on Friday April 6th.

Head Coach Jason Kerr outlines why the fixture has been arranged. When we were putting our pre-season programme together we felt that it was really important to play against as strong and competitive opposition as was possible,” he said. “When the chance to play against an international team came up it was too good to turn down.

“We had several discussions with Richard Holdsworth, who is the Performance Director at Cricket Ireland, and I think it’s a fixture that will suit both teams. We want to be playing a high standard of cricket ahead of that first game against Worcestershire and Ireland have some important games coming up this summer and are looking for competitive games as well.

“It’ll be a good challenge for us and will hopefully give us that competitive edge that we need going in to the start of the season.”

The admission price for the match will be FREE for both Members and Non-Members of Somerset County Cricket Club
