Somerset beat Hampshire in Second XI Trophy
Somerset won their Second XI Trophy match against Hampshire at Taunton Vale Sports Club by four wickets with 10 overs to spare.
After Hampshire were put into bat Kasey Aldridge struck first for the hosts with the score on 25 when he bowled Felix Organ for 17. Nathan Gilchrist accounted for the other opener Harry Came in the seventh over, caught by Lewis Goldsworthy for 5 with the total on 32. The same bowler then dismissed Lewis McManus with the score on 44 and when Ben Green had Tom Scriven leg before Hampshire found themselves 65 for 4.
Bradley Taylor and Harrison then took the total onto 131 when the latter was LBW to Goldsworthy for 27. Berg fell cheaply also to Goldsworthy before Taylor and Matt Pardoe took the total onto 182.
Taylor remained steadfast at the other end until he was the last man out, caught by Max Waller off Aldridge for 74 off 99 balls as Hampshire were all out for 205 in 43.5 overs.
Aldridge was the pick of the bowlers ending with 3 for 52 off 9.5 overs, while Gilchrist claimed 2 for 23 and Goldsworthy 2 for 32.
When Somerset replied they lost Sam Young for 24 in the fifth over with the total on 33 and Eddie Byrom for 9, three runs later.
Ben Wells was out for three which brought Tom Lammonby in to join Tim Rouse who together added 54 for the fourth wicket before Rouse was out for 29.
Lammonby and Green then stayed together for 17 overs and by the time both perished with the total on 191 Green for 57 and Lammonby for 53 off 82 balls, Somerset were all but home.
Aldridge unbeaten on 8 and Goldsworthy not out 6 then saw Somerset to a deserved victory with 10 overs to spare.
The Somerset team was – Max Waller, Eddie Byrom, Ben Green, Tim Rouse, Nathan Gilchrist, Tom Lammonby, Ollie Sale, Ben Wells, Sam Young, Kasey Aldridge and Lewis Goldsworthy.
