Somerset Women looking to finish season on a high

Somerset Women bring the curtain down on their 2020 season this weekend when they take part in a four-team tournament.

The T20 competition will take place at Taunton Vale Sports Club tomorrow (Sunday) and will feature Somerset, Gloucestershire, Devon and Wales.

The semi-finals between Somerset and Devon plus Gloucestershire vs Wales will begin at 11am, with the final and third place playoff getting underway at 2:30pm.

Head Coach, Dave Roberts will pick the starting XI from the following players: Emma Godman (c), Ellie Mitchell, Niamh Holland, Jess Hazell (wk), Joleigh Roberts, Jodie Filer, Daisy Jeanes, Lorraine Szczepanski, Georgia Tulip, Tilly Bond, Lola Harris, Alice Bird.

Ahead of the game, Dave Roberts said: “We’re massively proud to have had five players in the full Western Storm squad this year, and seeing them do so well has been amazing. Not having those five around has given us the chance to play some younger players and Sunday is a fantastic opportunity for this group to show what they can do.

“Seven of Sunday’s squad have represented our Under 17s this season with Lola Harris being the youngest player at 13 and Alice Bird is only 14.

“This weekend is a great chance for us to see how these players cope with the step up to women’s county cricket.”
