Special presentation for Marcus

It was announced recently that Marcus Trescothick would be leaving Somerset County Cricket Club after nearly three decades to take up the role of Elite Batting Coach with the ECB.

As a token of the Club’s appreciation for everything that Marcus has done for Somerset, a special presentation was made to him on Friday.

The entire playing and coaching staff and CEO Gordon Hollins were amongst those on hand to present Marcus with a specially commissioned portrait that was created by Max Waller and signed by the squad.

Head Coach, Jason Kerr said: “Obviously, we know that Marcus is leaving soon and we wanted to mark the occasion. We constantly talk about family and how tightly knit we are and Tres has been a huge part of that for almost three decades.

“After a few discussions we decided to commission a drawing by Max Waller and the guys have had the opportunity to write a few words on the mounting.

“It was all about recognising his contribution to the Club. What he’s done on the field will be spoken about for years to come, but what people don’t see is how he behaves in and around our environment. He’s so supportive when young players come into the dressing room and he’s always willing to help others.

“He and I started our cricketing journeys back in 1992 and our careers took very differing paths but it’s been a privilege to see one of my best friends have such an outstanding career.”
