Staff Profile: Agne Seikyte
There are a number of new faces in the Commercial Team at the Cooper Associates County Ground.
This week it is our pleasure to introduce you to our Conference and Events Sales Executive, Agne Seikyte.
Agne joined the team recently and when we spoke to her earlier this week, she explained how she came to take up the position.
“I was talking with someone from Exeter Chiefs who told me that Somerset County Cricket Club were looking for a conference and events salesperson,” she said. “That’s how I heard about the opportunity. I live in Taunton, so I thought it would be great to give it a go.”
Is conferencing and events something that she has always had a passion for?
“I’ve always been interested in that sort of thing,” she explained. “My mother worked for a travel agency when I was young, so she was always traveling abroad, and I always thought that was really interesting. However, my dad worked for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and was head of an international security department, which was very different to what my mum was doing.
“When I was at school, my family was very keen on me having a speciality, so initially I ended up studying law, but it wasn’t quite the right fit for me. I decided that I needed a change, so after two years, I changed to a hotel management course, which I loved. I ended up doing my degree in hotel management and then followed that up with a second degree in tourism and recreation.
“I’ve worked in the hotel industry for the last 20 years. I spent eight years working for Raddison Hotels. I also worked at a hotel where we hosted ITF tennis tournaments and I oversaw the events side of things there.
“When I moved to England, I worked at Hotel du Vin in Exeter where I was a sales manager until the role took on the events manager element following a structure change due to Covid.”
Agne is originally from Lithuania, so how did she end up in Somerset?
“Six and a half years ago my husband was offered a job in England and within two weeks we made the decision to move,” she explained. “I had international hotel experience because I travelled a lot with Raddison, so I was confident that I would be okay. We knew we couldn’t leave it any later because our son was 13 at the time and if we had waited, he would have been too old to take out of school and move to a different country with a different language.
“Whilst the three of us were settling in I got a job with Capita Travel and Events where I was dealing with meetings, events, group bookings and things like that. I was there for approximately a year before I got hungry to work in hotels again. I started looking for roles in the South West and an opportunity came about at Hotel du Vin and I was there for five years.”
How has her experience of Somerset CCC been so far?
“This is a great adventure and challenge for me. It’s very different from Hotel du Vin, but I’m absolutely loving it here. It’s a great place to work and there is huge potential. The Cooper Associates County Ground is a hub for Taunton and the South West.
“Everyone has been very welcoming and friendly, and it’s been great so far. I will need to improve my cricket knowledge because the sport isn’t very big in Lithuania. Over there it’s all about basketball. Everyone plays basketball in Lithuania and it’s like a second religion.”
What does Agne hope to achieve during her time at Somerset CCC?
“My aim is to make sure that the Cooper Associates County Ground becomes incredibly well known not just for cricket but also for concerts, fine dining and networking events. It’s in a great location and the facilities are excellent.”
