There are a number of new faces in the Commercial Team at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

This week we are pleased to be able to introduce you to our Sponsorship & Partnership Executive, Jonathan Lewis-Oliver.

How did Jonathan end up at Somerset County Cricket Club?

“I spent the last six years as a quantity surveyor within the construction industry,” he explained. “I’ve always been a Somerset fan and I’ve been a Member for a number of years. My father has been a passionate Somerset supporter since the 70s and introduced me to cricket at an early age.

“My previous role gave me a good experience of dealing with contracts and working with a wide and varied range of people and organisations. When I saw this role advertised at Somerset I felt that it was a really good fit for me.”

As Jonathan explains, although he is not originally from the region, he is no stranger to the South West.

“I’ve just moved to Exeter, but I lived in Taunton for the previous six years. I’m originally from the South East but I went to Exeter University and after that decided to stay in the West Country.”

Jonathan has always loved the game of cricket.

“One of my earliest memories is of my dad playing cricket when I was about four years old,” he explained. “I’ve been playing the game for as long as I can remember whether that be for a local club or at school.”

Is the sports industry one that he always aspired to?

“My first degree was in civil engineering, but sport, and especially cricket, has always been a passion of mine. Sport is always something that I wanted to get into, although my career path wasn’t heading down that line. I’ve been looking for an opportunity like this for a while and I’m delighted that I’ve finally got the skill set to achieve that ambition.”

What exactly does his role entail?

“I am the Sponsorship & Partnership Executive. My responsibility is to ensure that the rights of our Commercial Partners are met and activated. It’s important that we maximise our relationships with those Partners, and that’s one of my key roles. This could be anything from advertising at the Cooper Associates County Ground or online via our livestream, to hosting networking events. We will do whatever we can to ensure that our Partner’s marketing goals are achieved.”

How has Jonathan settled in?

“It’s been brilliant,” he said. “I’ve been here for nearly five months, and it feels like I’ve been here for much longer. Everyone is really friendly, and we’ve got a great team who have made it easy for me to settle in. The great thing about working here is that your passion is your work. I get a huge buzz from us being successful commercially because that will make a real difference out on the pitch for a team that I love.”

What’s it like working for a team that you support?

“It’s still a bit surreal seeing some of the players in the office because I’m used to watching them from over in the Somerset Stand. It’s an amazing feeling when you come into the ground and see the pitch and the floodlights every morning. Working here is a dream come true.”

What does he hope to achieve in his time with the Club?

“I want to play a part in helping the commercial side of the Club grow and make sure our Partners continue to feel like they are a valued element of the Somerset cricket family. If our Partners benefit, we benefit. That will help the Club to grow and, subsequently, this will get fed back into what happens on the pitch. A successful commercial element helps to ensure that we have a strong Somerset team.”

Does partnering with SCCC benefit a business?

“100%! The brand exposure and value for money that Partners get is second to none. It’s such an effective way of getting your brand out there.”

We currently have a wide range of opportunities available which are designed to meet any business need or budget, so let us help you to stage the perfect event.
