Staff Profile: Paul Cooper
Somerset County Cricket Club are delighted to be able to introduce you to Paul Cooper who was recently been appointed as the Club’s new Events Manager.
Paul is no stranger to the area and and has lived locally for the last 14 years.
Talking about his new post Paul said: “I’m really excited to have been appointed to work at Somerset. It’s been a great experience meeting my new team and trying to use my experience to make a difference here. I’ve been involved in catering since I was 13 and always wanted to be a chef, which I did for a long while working for Trust House Forte in London for a few years in an 900 bedroom hotel. Since then I have worked in restaurants and hotels all over the country.”
More recently however Paul has been working locally as he explained. “For the last five years I’ve been at Tesco’s here in Taunton,” he said. “There I was running the café and catering for the staff which was very interesting and varied and some days we would cater for as many as 500 people.”
How did Paul come to be at the Cooper Associates County Ground? “I wasn’t looking for a change but then almost by accident I met Sam Safe (SCCC Catering Manager),” he said. “We got chatting, I then had an interview and now I’m on board! It’s been a very interesting few weeks since I first started working here just before the IT20.
“I feel like I’ve walked into a real family here at Somerset County Cricket Club, that’s very much the feeling that I get after my first few weeks here. What’s struck me most about the people who I’ve met here are the number who’ve worked for the Club for over 20 years. That says a lot about the place.
“Sport has always been important to me and I play county standard badminton and squash and currently I am training for Ironman that involves swimming, cycling and running as well, which keeps me pretty fit!”Back to News
